Saturday was my first Triathlon, and it was an amazing experience!!! I did the race with my great buddies Jessica and Sheila. We left at 6:15am on Saturday to get up to Rancho Seco to set up our transition areas, get marked, and stretch. I was so nervous/excited I was awake by 5am.
I was the most nervous about the swim, due to the open water issue I have, but the swim was by far the easiest part on race day. It may be due to the fact that it was the first thing :) I have realized I am NOT a very strong biker, and really need to train more so I can shave time off of my completion time. We were in the 30-39 age division, and got to wear lovely yellow caps. They divide everyone in heats according to your age. I was AMAZED by the amount of older-middle aged women who do the race, and how competitive they are ( they mark your age on your calf - so you know exactly how old everyone is). Watch out for the 40+ year olds- they can book it on the bike!

After the race we realized that Jess had locked her keys in the car. Since we were in the middle to nowhere, it took the tow truck about an hour and half to show up. We searched her car and couldn't find her keys anywhere!! I slightly started to panic because that is her ONLY key to her van. After searching everything again, Jessica found them in the bag she had the whole time.......so funny! We had a good laugh about it.

If anyone is at ALL slightly interested in doing a tri - I would HIGHLY recommend it. It is an amazing experience. You learn how to train your body to recover from one exercise to the next (like biking to running - it feels waaaaaay funky!!), which is so neat to see what your body is capable of doing. But what I loved most was the personal/emotional growth you get at the end knowing your reached your goal.

Congratulations! I had no idea that you had done it. Way to get over your fear of the water. I'm hoping that I can do one (or two or three) next summer ... so I'll pick your brain
