First Day of School

They're off. It feels like the middle of summer still. This year Hayden started Kindergarten, so I had to say goodbye to two of them this morning, which was very hard.

Callie has been looking forward to this day for weeks. Last night she was giddy with excitement talking about the people in her class, what she was going to wear, and how on Fridays she get to cook with Mrs. Marten. She is pretty much fearless, which I am beginning to realize is so nice for a parent.

Hayden on the other hand, has been extremely anxious for school to start. The poor thing has had an upset stomach, loss of appetite, and has been the most sensitive thing bursting into tears if anyone would look at him wrong. (While shopping for school supplies at Target, he suddenly burst into tears because of something Callie had said, and asked to go home because he needed some quiet time). It hasn't been hard just for him. When I found out he was a late bird, and would be gone an extra 40 minutes and eat lunch at school, tears started rolling down my cheeks. I wasn't ready for a second child to be gone for so much of the day. I had invisioned picking him up and talking about his day while eating lunch together. It's been hard for both of us, but luckily, he has Mrs. Sancedo who taught Callie for K and 1st grades, who is fabulous. I was afraid there were going to be tears this morning when I dropped him off, but luckily no tears (from him or me :).

I can't wait to pick them up and hear about their first day of school.

It's nice to know other moms have a hard time sending their kids off to school. The school supply section in target sends me into panic attacks.
